About this camp

The Carolina Summer Sailing Camp offers week-long, on-the-water sessions designed for children aged 9 to 16. Participants engage in small group instruction to develop fundamental and advanced sailing skills using Optimist ("Opti") and "420" sailboats. The curriculum emphasizes safety, building confidence, and improving sailing proficiency. Beginner sailors learn the parts of a sailboat, how it operates, and proper rigging techniques. Intermediate sessions build upon these skills, introducing upwind and downwind sailing techniques and basic racing concepts. For more experienced sailors, "Race Week" focuses on advanced racing tactics, including starting techniques, efficient course sailing, and understanding racing rules. The program aims to foster a lifelong love for sailing while developing practical skills and teamwork.
