This free program offers a unique opportunity for high school students to gain hands-on biotechnology lab experience and direct interaction with industry scientists at a leading biotech company.
The Biogen Lab Camps, also known as Adventures in Biotechnology, offer high school students a free, immersive, hands-on experience in the world of biotechnology. Participants engage in a hands-on lab project focused on the drug development process, specifically working with DNA that codes for blue fluorescent protein with the goal of purifying green fluorescent protein. Through this project, students learn and perform various lab techniques including bacterial transformation, site-directed mutagenesis, protein extraction, affinity purification, and PAGE. The program also provides opportunities to meet and interact with scientists and other biotech professionals, offering an inside view of a biotech company and insights into potential biotech careers. The camp aims to deepen students' interest in health sciences, biotechnology, invention, and innovation, while expanding their knowledge and laboratory skills in STEM.
Each day focuses on lab work, where students work with DNA, proteins, and bacteria to make and purify green fluorescent protein, and also includes opportunities to meet scientists and learn about biotech careers.
This camp is ideal for high school students in grades 9-12 who are interested in math and science and want to explore careers in biotechnology and health sciences.
