Students gain hands-on experience in cybersecurity and apply design thinking to real-world technology protection, including a visit to the Google Durham Campus.
The SECURE IT Summer Academy at NC State University is a one-week, non-residential program designed for rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Students will learn to think like cyber detectives and apply design thinking to protect the technology they interact with daily. The curriculum covers fundamental cybersecurity concepts, providing hands-on experience with tools and strengthening critical thinking skills. Participants will explore topics such as Linux, computer networking, and adversarial thinking. The program aims to engage students in cybersecurity at an early age and inspire them to become skilled cybersecurity professionals. A typical day includes classroom instruction, lunch, and more classroom instruction, with field trips and guest speakers scheduled during these blocks. Lunch is included in the pricing, and there will be a visit to the Google Durham Campus.
A typical camp day runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, with classroom instruction in the morning and afternoon, a lunch break from 12:15 pm to 1:15 pm, and dismissal at 3:45 pm.
This camp is best for middle school students (rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders) interested in exploring cybersecurity and developing critical thinking skills to protect technology.
