Students gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge sensor technology and research directly from NC State faculty in a world-class university setting.
Sensing Science with ASSIST is a summer day camp for high school students in grades 9-12, hosted by the ASSIST Center at NC State University. Students will explore human physiology and wearable sensors, learning how heart rate, blood pressure, and muscle movement are influenced by exercise and analyzed with data. The camp emphasizes hands-on experience with sensors, circuits, and electronic components. Students will follow the Engineering Design Process to address global One Health issues, utilizing open-source platforms and simple sensors for detection and mitigation. Activities include experimenting with physiological principles, data gathering, and analysis techniques. Participants will also tour world-class laboratories, attend seminars from renowned researchers, and have the opportunity to present their projects to family members. The camp aims to inspire interest in STEM and wearable devices, providing a unique university campus experience.
A typical day involves hands-on experience with sensors, circuits, and electronic components, daily instruction from university professors and specialized teachers, and tours of world-class laboratories.
This summer experience is geared toward students with an interest in computer science and biology, and those interested in STEM and wearable devices.
