SMILE Camp's "Best of SMILE I" program offers a fast-paced, hands-on week where students engage in interactive science and math labs. Campers participate in four different labs each day, with each activity including a project or reaction for them to lead. The curriculum covers a range of topics from chemistry to physics, allowing students to explore concepts through experiments and problem-solving. Activities include flame testing, engineering challenges, creating bismuth crystals, generating electric arcs, building air pressure cannons, and extracting DNA. The camp aims to expose students to college-level and real-world applications of science, math, technology, and engineering, fostering a deeper interest beyond the classroom. Students will gain skills in scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and hands-on experimentation, creating, designing, and building projects to take home.
A typical day involves early arrival drop-off, followed by experiment time, a snack break, more experiment time, lunch and activity time, additional experiment time, another snack break, and a final experiment session before normal pick-up.
This camp is ideal for elementary school students who are academically/intellectually gifted and eager to explore real science through hands-on experiments alongside their peers.
